Biomimetic dentistry, a type of tooth-conserving dentistry, treats weak, fractured, and decayed teeth in a way that keeps them strong and seals them from bacterial invasion. In dental practices around the world, Biomimetic Dentistry has practically eliminated cutting teeth down for crowns and destructive root canal treatment. Patients are happier and often spend less compared to conventional treatment. For more information watch the videos on biomimetic dentistry and the tooth cycle.
We’re all about drilling less and keeping teeth healthier. It’s possible to seal small cavities that are between the teeth. In the past, fixing these small cavities required removing large amounts of healthy tooth with a dental drill just to get to the small cavity. If the cavity is diagnosed early enough, then we usually recommend sealing the cavity, and preserving as much solid tooth structure as possible. This type of treatment is only possible with small cavities. Once they get too large we have to treat them in a different manner.
If you haven’t noticed, prevention and catching problems early are what we focus on. This saves money, time, and hassle. The foundation of a healthy mouth is the cleaning appointment. The hygienist will show you where problem areas are and explain how to keep your gums and teeth healthy. At the end of the appointment, the doctor will examine your mouth and explain any problems you may have, as well as discuss options for treating them.
Onlays & Inlays
You really should watch the video called Why I Hate Crowns for a full explanation of our view on the subject. But basically, traditional crowns require too much healthy tooth to be removed. We prefer much more conservative techniques such as onlays or inlays. These accomplish the same purpose of crowns, such as strengthening the tooth, without whittling the tooth to a stump. The video Biomimetic Dentistry also ties into the subject of crowns, onlays, and inlays.
Wisdom teeth can cause many problems; the most severe are infections and cavities. The main problem behind wisdom teeth comes down to not having enough space for the teeth to come in fully and properly into the mouth. If wisdom teeth are partially covered with gums, then they can develop into a serious infection called “pericoronitis”. They can also get cavities easily because they are difficult to brush, and can rub on the inside of the mouth. We offer free wisdom tooth consultations, which include a panoramic radiograph and exam. This is a $150 value. Call to schedule yours today.
Ozone is a very useful medication in dentistry. We use it as an adjunct in a variety of treatments. It’s useful to help treat cavities, gum disease, and root canals. It also helps with root sensitivity. Ozone is used to treat the water we use in our dental drills and other tools. This ensures that our water and water lines are clean.
Dental implants make treatments available that dentists only imagined just a couple of decades ago. They provide a wide variety of treatments for people who are missing teeth. Dental implants can replace just one tooth, a few teeth, all teeth, or used to help anchor dentures. At our office we prefer implants as opposed to bridges because they are more conservative.
To place a bridge, the teeth next to the missing space have to be ground down to small nubs; it’s a similar process to placing a traditional crown. We offer complementary implant consultations. Let us help you decide if implants are the right option for you.
Our goal for children who grow up in our practice is to never have a dental drill touch their adult teeth. This is done with our “super sealant” treatment. Most adult molars have small cavities deep grooves and pits when they grow in. Traditional sealants do little to treat these cavities – in fact they may make them worse by covering up the problem instead of addressing it.
Our “super sealant” process uses gentle air abrasion to remove the small cavities and clean the teeth. This step usually requires no shots and can be done quickly. Then a simple filling is placed in the deep groves. This removes the large amounts of “bad” or cavity-causing bacteria that are present in the small cavities; this not only is healthy for the tooth, but also increases the health of the entire mouth. We see a dramatic decrease in cavities throughout the mouth by treating the teeth early.
